Tasting results of Salvarenza and La Froscà from The World of Fine Wine

Our cru wines Contrada Salvarenza Soave Classico 2016 and La Froscà Soave Classico 2016 have been evaluated in a blind panel tasting by Bruno Besa, Andrew Jefford and Michael Palij MW, scoring among the top 10 wines in the tasting.

We're happy to share their tasting notes below.

Gini Contrada Salvarenza Soave Classico Soave 2016

Average Score: 92

First taster: Bruno Besa

Note: Brilliant golden straw. Clean, elegant, lemon and quince nose, with an intense herbal, mineral character. Layered, mature fruit, balanced acidity, with a firm citrus character and a long, clean finish. Score: 93

Second taster: Andrew Jefford

Note: Bright gold; clean and fresh. Quiet, sappy fruits. Classical and attractive, weathering the passing of the years effectively. On the palate, an excellent Soave: everything one hopes for in terms of delicacy and tenderness, still fresh and nuanced, vivid and long. This is not a wine that is ever going to trouble Montrachet or Hermitage, but a very pretty glassful of supremely amenable white wine for a wide variety of foods. Score: 91

Third taster: Michael Palij MW

Note: An elegant white from the rather special 2016 vintage, showing floral notes, stone fruit, nuttiness, and the first hint of tertiary character. The wine has excellent length and firm natural acidity to keep everything aligned. Balance is everything, and here the fruit, acidity, and lees contact work in harmony. Score: 91

Gini La Frosca Soave Classico 2016

Average Score: 91

First taster: Bruno Besa

Note: Golden to straw. Elegant, complex citrus fruit, quince and yellow stone-fruits nose, with intense yellow flowers character and hints of fresh herbs. Balanced palate, with lively acidity, clean yellow fruit, and a long, aromatic finish. Score: 93

Second taster: Andrew Jefford

Note: Bright gold. Grainy and soft; inarticulate, but placidly pleasant. Better depth of fruit than many, and the graceful, tender delicacy of the style has been well-retained, even though we are now nearly four years on. More fruit drive than the other 2016s. Score: 89

Third taster: Michael Palij MW

Note: Tight nose, with some peach, apricot, Cox’s apple, mineral, dried herbs, hawthorn, and white pepper. The palate really opens to show masses of fruit, although the fruit is remarkably restrained for Soave. Everything is here, alongside the elegance one seldom sees in Soave. Score: 91
